Many French watch companies have a shared
history with companies in Switzerland because of their location in the Jura
mountains that straddle the French-Swiss border.
Not surprisingly, the Swiss are the greatest recipients
of watch products from France. But more French-made timepieces are being
sold in the U.S. today than ever.
Here's a brief look at the diverse French timepieces
industry via figures reported for 1997. Several French timepiece companies
recently debuted or renewed their sales to the U.S. in 1998, so the figures
will likely increase.
