Fresh Appeal

No longer the domain of department stores and low-end specialty shops, freshwater pearls get a fresh look from designers who capitalize on their unusual shapes and colors

Perhaps nowhere is Mother Nature more creative than with freshwater pearls.

These gems can be formed accidentally in freshwater mussels or deliberately by inserting clam tissue into the mussel to promote the secretion of nacre, which forms the pearl. Either way, a wide range of colors and shapes results. Whether by nature or nurture, these pearls encourage original design that flows with fresh texture, style and appeal.
