Pearl associations and JA sponsor GIA education
Four trade institutions have teamed up to bring cultured pearl and other
gemstone education to your backyard.
Jewelers of America and two pearl associations GIE Perles de Tahiti
of Papeete, French Polynesia, and the Cultured Pearl Information Center,
New York City will help JA state affiliates to pay for a full day
of training by the Gemological Institute of America. The program is open
to the first 30 JA affiliates that include GIA's "Focus on Pearls"
seminar, designed specifically for the partnership, and up to three other
GIA seminars in their annual convention education programs. The pearl associations
will each contribute $1,000 to the $2,025 cost of training; JA will cover
the remaining $25.
JA decided to promote GIA education after its affiliates reported the
highest attendance at GIA-sponsored seminars at conventions, says Bev Hori,
JA director of education. Twenty-nine affiliates have already scheduled
GIA trainers for their conventions this year.
