CD-ROM educates salespeople
A technology that has enlivened learning for students of everything from
Shakespeare to personal finance, the CD-ROM is now a tool for pearl sales
training in jewelry stores.
Jewelers of America has teamed up with GIE Perles de Tahiti, a French
Polynesia-based marketing organization for the Tahitian black pearl industry,
to produce Pearls of Tahiti,an interactive CD-ROM for PC and Macintosh
platforms. The program has the enticing graphics and narration of a video,
but allows salespeople to proceed at their own pace.
The CD-ROM walks users through pearl history, jewelry styles, quality
factors and pricing. Photos and narration conduct a whirlwind tour of pearl
production and processing. There's a five-step crash course in successful
jewelry sales, a glossary of pearl terms and a FAQ (frequently asked questions)
section about Tahitian black pearls.
"So many of the salespeople who are entering the industry have grown
up with computers, and that's how they've learned," says Bev Hori,
JA director of education. "They like to navigate their learning in
a non-linear way that they can't get from text. We need to make the vehicles
available for them to learn this way."
The CD-ROM is available at no charge to JA members at (800) 223-0673.
