Beautiful Beads

Color and shape combine for dramatic intensity

Coral, jet and jade were among the most popular gemstone beads in the past. Today, aventurine, peridot and different colors of tourmaline are the favorites. "The colors these gemstones provide convey a sense of serenity," says Simon Alcantara, designer/owner of McCall Alcantara, New York City.

The earthiness and boldness of gemstone beads add sensuality and a feeling of movement. "The inspirational power of color along with its uniqueness enables a consumer to have an immediate connection with this jewelry," says Teresa Corallo Katz, president of Studio Karu, New York City.

Gemstone beads can be displayed dramatically. A minimal display, such as one amazing necklace of oversized beads on a beautiful platform, is all that's needed to attract customers' attention.
