It's a good time of year to stock up on watches designed for women

With Valentine'S Day and Mothers Day just ahead, you'll soon need more watches for slimmer wrists.

In the past year, watch companies have widened their choices of women's watches considerably. Here are just a few of the new models and several variations of proven best-sellers.

The Cape Cod Mini expands a collection already well-known to Hermès aficionados. It's sold in 18k yellow or white gold with or without diamonds. An 18k bracelet and a handmade crocodile strap are available. Suggested retail, $3,000.

Akteo's "Sweet Love" watch sends the message. French designer J.C. Mareschal created it in brushed goldplate with a choice of straps. Suggested retail, $89-$99.

Cartier's Trinity watch, the company's first watch derived from a jewelry design, now sparkles with pink, white and yellow diamonds to match the same colors of 18k gold. Patent leather strap.

St. John Timepieces, the new watch collection licensed by the St. John women's fine clothing and accessories company, features black and white diamonds set in stainless steel, ETA movement and sapphire crystal. Suggested retail, $18,000. The collection begins at $450.

Diamond-bezel, steel-case model is near the high end of the Serena collection from Bertolucci. The cambered case, integrated into the crocodile leather strap, is screw-down; the crystal is convex sapphire. Suggested retail, $4,950.

This heart-shaped pendant watch features cartoon character Winnie the Pooh's profile on a mother-of-pearl dial. Gold-tone hands and pearl indicators make the piece shimmer. Suggested retail, $49.95.

Nobel stainless steel watch features 22k goldplate accents (10 microns), a solid 18k crown, Swiss movement and blue dial. Men's model also available. Suggested retail, $375.

The newest version of Rado's Sintra comes in basic black. Previously available only in platinum-color, the Sintra is made of scratch-resistant ceramic and comes with several dial options, titanium clasp and in two sizes. Suggested retail, $1,690+.

The woman's Sonoma chronograph from Cross Timepieces features stainless steel case and bracelet, a variety of dial colors and full Swiss construction and movement. A leather strap is available. Suggested retail, $695.

The Lugano, a woman's automatic watch from St. Moritz, is based on a 1950s mechanical watch design. It is Swiss-made with a 35-hour power reserve, 10-micron white goldplating and see-through case back. Suggested retail, $395. Also available with rose gold, crocodile strap and in a man's size.

 Faceted crystals shine in Bulova's bangle collection. The watches come in various shapes and with several face colors. The bangle size is fully adjustable. Suggested retail, $199.

Steel or steel/two-tone Yves Saint Laurent Cachet Sport watches feature deployment buckles and white, copper or slate gray faces. Water resistant to 330 feet. Suggested retail, $275-$295.

Named after a wakeboard jump, the Calypso Air Raley features screwdown case back, unidirectional rotating bezel and 150 feet of water resistance. Suggested retail, $79. Chronographs are available also.
