On the Cyclist's Wrist:Sporty Function

Respondents to an on-line poll conducted by Bicyling magazine are function-oriented and, not surprisingly, prefer a sport watch or chronograph. Dressy looks draw less interest in this consumer niche. Of the 4,413 respondents, about 14% view their watch as "part of their wardrobe," while 55% consider the watch "a tool for timekeeping." Below and to the right are other data gleaned from the magazine's tally. (Also see the related story "Cyclist Aspirations") The on-line poll, a first for the magazine featuring watch-related questions, will likely be repeated annually, says Elliot Gluskin, the magazine's research director.
