One retailer's unusual catalog images call attention to the season's
Retailers who produce their own advertisements and catalogs may want
to note Saks Fifth Avenue's artistic approach to fashion photography in
its Fall 1998 catalog.
When looking at a photograph of a person, readers tend to let their eyes
drift right away to the subject's gaze. This winter's textured clothing
and ornate jewelry were already enough eye candy for one catalog
page. So Saks neatly sliced off the top half of its models' heads, letting
shoppers' eyes wander instead to the brightest spot at the top center of
the page the jewelry.
The striking images bring the products to life while the unusual cropping
focuses attention on them.
