You have to feel it to believe it

Crocheted, braided and woven metal jewelry has movement and conveys beauty through its malleability. "Its suppleness brings out elegance and grace in the wearer," says Yuri Ichihashi, designer/president of Yuri Ichihashi Inc., New York City.

The beauty of this jewelry depends as much on tactile sensation as visual perception. "A well-designed adornment should feel like a natural extension of the physical body," says Michael David Sturlin of Michael Sturlin Studio, Scottsdale, AZ.

This jewelry also is versatile, which appeals to consumers. It can be worn with sophisticated evening gowns yet still works in a casual setting. It's simple and understated but packs visual impact. "It's like the classic black dress that's a requisite in a woman's wardrobe to make it completely functional," says Sturlin.

In the showcase, drape these precious textiles on rich fabric or wrap them around a satin pillow to highlight their flexibility.
