Watch Sales & Profits Rise

Watch sales grew by double-digit percentage increases in most types of jewelry stores in 1998, according to the 1999 Jewelers of America® "Cost of Doing Business Survey." The biggest increases were among high-end independents with over $1.5 million sales volume and among chain jewelers with sales over $12.5 million.

Interestingly, profitability on watches was very high among all types of retailers.

The "Repairs" category on the table at right comprises watch and jewelry. The biggest increases again were among high-end independents with sales over $1.5 million.
