Large is the trend in timepieces


New case and dial shapes with larger features were among the highlights at the recent watch shows in Basel and Geneva, Switzerland. Here we display several examples, many now ready for your showcase.

Blancpain’s Concept 2001 is a limited-edition tribute to Napoleon I and his requirement for a “half-hunter” timepiece. The half-hunter features a viewing hole in the hinged front cover. The second cover curves over the clear sapphire back. It shows the Blancpain automatic movement with a 100-hour power reserve and a gold rotor. The red gold version shown is $20,500 retail.

Tissot’s Bellflower features a solid 18k yellow gold Milanese flexible mesh bracelet. The dial is sold in black, white or champagne. Suggested retail, $2,995.

A large dual-time watch line from art and jewelry designer de Grisogono features an oversized date, natural black diamond crown and clear sapphire back that reveals the blackened steel automatic movement. This 18k model with guilloché dial, gold numbers and stingray strap is $14,800 suggested retail.

Corum’s rebirth features the Trapeze, the “star” of the Boutique collection. The shape is emphasized by a curved case and, in this model, by a diamond bezel. Three sizes are available with quartz or automatic movements. Retail prices for diamond pieces start at $3,300; without diamonds, $995.

New to Baume & Mercier’s Capeland line, this GMT automatic alarm features a movement from Girard-Perregaux and a clear sapphire back to view the decorated and engraved rotor. Suggested retail, $3,750 in steel (limited edition of 1,500).

Gucci’s new 7100 model is solid 18k yellow gold in a pyramid texture with a
G clasp on a calf leather bracelet.

This automatic Classic XXL from Oris features black or white dial and Arabic numerals, rubber strap and steel butterfly lock. It’s available in 44mm (shown), 40mm or 36mm diameter. Suggested retail, $650+.

Piaget introduces a larger version of its Protocole collection, called Protocole XL. It features a Piaget 500P automatic movement, a yellow or white gold case and a strap or handcrafted gold bracelet. Suggested retail, $7,450; a quartz model is $6,000.
