U.S. Remains Top Market for Swiss Watch Exports

Exports to U.S. rise 30% over two years

The United States imported 12.4% more Swiss watches by value in the first 11 months of 1999 than the same period of 1998, according to a new report by the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry.

Over a two-year period, exports to the U.S. increased 30%, making it the biggest destination for Swiss watches.

Exports to Hong Kong (the second biggest export market) rose a healthy 13.6% after a drop in 1998, another piece of evidence the Asian economies are starting to recover.

Full-year reports will be unveiled at the Basel Show in Switzerland in March.
