Metals Hit Summer Doldrums
Prices stall as trade prepares for second half
Gold prices settled in for a long run around $280 per ounce, about $20 more than the same time last year. They were unaffected overall by the news of several mergers of mining companies.
The gap between this years prices and last years continues to widen and now runs about $200 higher, though it reached a plateau around $575 in midsummer.
Silver prices are little changed from last year, reflecting continued strength in the market and a good balance between supply and demand.
