Watch Sales Grow for Midsize Jewelers

Independents report nearly 29% increase

Watch sales fared well compared with jewelry sales in retail jewelry stores, based on Jewelers of America’s 2000 Cost of Doing Business Survey.

The survey, based on 1999 sales, shows that watch sales fell in smaller and custom jewelry stores but rose 28.6% among independent jewelers with annual sales exceeding $1 million.

Watch sales rose 25.2% in chain jewelry stores with sales exceeding $12.5 million and 26.3% in those with sales under $12.5 million.

The chart compares major product groups in independent jewelry stores with sales exceeding $1 million in 2000.
