Color Cavalcade

From cool blues to hot reds, from simple ovals to fantasy cuts, the AGTA Spectrum Award™ winners showcase a variety of designs you can use to wow customers

A veritable rainbow of colored gems in all shapes and sizes – from the cool elegance of perfectly round pearls to the whimsy of a spessartite garnet sea horse – claimed the top prizes in the American Gem Trade Association’s 20th anniversary Spectrum Award™ Jewelry Design Competition.

The prestigious competition is divided into eight categories. Five are based on suggested retail value; the others are Manufacturing Honors, International Awards and Special Awards marking the 20th anniversary. A separate Platinum Honors division is highlighted in the Precious Metals/News department starting on page 95 of this issue.

Entries were judged on effective use of materials, overall beauty and wearability, innovation in design, quality of gem material, quality of workmanship, potential to generate positive publicity for gemstones of natural origin and broad-based consumer appeal. The judges were Steve Lagos of Lagos Inc., Philadelphia PA; Llyn Strelau of Jewels by Design, Calgary, Alberta, Canada; and Kathleen Fitzpatrick of Departures magazine, New York City. Winners will be honored at a dinner dance during the AGTA GemFair™ this month.
