Wrapping Wrists

Encourage customers to try these on

There’s seduction in the way gold winds its way around a wrist. Light dances across the sculpted links and tooled finishes with each movement of the wearer’s wrist, tempting the eyes of innocent bystanders, drawing them ever closer for a better look.

Design isn’t the only factor to consider when choosing which bracelets to stock. You also want to offer your customers good value. “Value is very important to customers, and handcrafted jewelry reflects value,” says Carol Ackerman, owner/designer of Carol Ackerman Designs, West Hartford, CT.

Especially popular are tank, bicycle chain, wave and fish-scale links. Also on the minds of consumers: Wide gold cuff bracelets with gem caps, flat and supple links in a brick-walk pattern and flexible bangles. For fans of vintage jewelry, Van Cleef and Arpels-inspired honeycomb links – in vogue since the 1930s – remain popular. Multiple chains and charm bracelets are longtime favorites also.

Note: Be sure clasps are user-friendly and work well. Sales associates should practice opening and closing them in case customers want to test them.

Display bracelets on hand and wrist props, but also encourage female customers to try them on, and have someone available to demonstrate for male customers.
