This rare Breguet pocket watch is among the 433 items in the Sandberg watch collection that will be auctioned March 31-April 1 at Antiquorum Auctioneers in Geneva, Switzerland. The collection was assembled by Lord Sandberg during his career at the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp., where he was chairman from 1977 to 1986.
Many of the pieces were made for the Chinese market and include elaborate enamel-cased pocket watches and singing bird automatons. One such bird made by Montres Jaquet-Droz around 1785 has a presale estimate of $143,000. The Breguet quarter repeating perpetuelle pictured here was originally sold in 1816 and has a presale estimate of $86,000.
The collection will preview in New York City at Tourneaus TimeMachine March 16-17.
