Outside the Line

Non-line bracelets offer an alternative

In the wake of De Beers’ ad blitz for the diamond line bracelet, some designers have turned to non-linear, organic and fluid designs.

Round or princess-cut diamonds – or a mix of the cuts – create simple elegance. For dimension, some designers use canary yellow diamonds. “Colored diamonds allow a woman to own something that is outside of the box,” says designer Sasha Samuels of Portland, OR.

Remember also that quality has become more important to diamond customers, but they’re still concerned about price in today’s economy. “Consumers normally seek something with a total weight of about 1 carat,” she says. “By using smaller diamonds – say under 20 points each – and designing the jewelry so each tiny stone is maximized, the end result is a piece that is quality-driven,” says Samuels.
