Retail Stores Remain Targets

Don't let down your guard

Though traveling sales reps have received the most attention where jewelry crime is concerned recently, crime against retailers is still Jewelers Mutual Insurance Co.’s top category for losses, according to its latest newsletter.

JMI says criminals who target retail stores are equal-opportunity thieves who hit jewelers of all sizes, types (downtown, mall and free-standing) and locations across the nation.

The company advises store owners and managers to review loss-prevention procedures with all employees. It offers two free videos to clients, called “Selling with Security” and “ROBBERY: Anytime. Anywhere.” Jewelers not insured by the company can buy the videos for $50 each. Insured jewelers also can order loss-prevention brochures titled “Preventing Losses When Open” and “Preventing Losses When Closed.”
