Springy Solution

Here's how to remove the spring-clip from omega-back earring findings for soldering

To install omega-back earring findings, you must remove the center spring to avoid annealing and loosening its springy tension during the soldering process. Though the findings are difficult to manipulate, Jeffrey Mathews developed the following tool modification to make the process faster and easier:

Start with standard flat-nose pliers. Inexpensive ones are easiest to file and shape. Shorten one end and file the two notches as shown.
Support the central spring section of the finding with the shortened jaw of the pliers on the raised portion. Support the outer portion of the omega back finding
with the longer jaw.
Gentle squeezing removes the tension between the spring and holding portions of the finding. While squeezing, remove the rivet pin holding the two pieces together, dissemble, solder and reassemble using the same technique.
