Kwiat Develops Ice Drops System

A new patent-pending attachment allows jewelers to add drops to stud earrings, creating a new add-on sale opportunity

Once it was enough for a fashionable woman to have a pair of diamond stud earrings – no embellishment necessary. But a new interest in dangles opens a whole new jewelry category for your store.

What if you could tell every customer who owns stud earrings there’s a way to add a removable dangle? That’s exactly the opportunity Kwiat provides with its new Ice Drops system.

Kwiat was an innovator in the diamond stud earring category when it offered a three-prong mounting, which allows the diamond to shine with little metal showing. The three-prong setting is now a company specialty, says Kwiat’s Bill Gould, so the company didn’t want its new Ice Drops dangle attachment to interfere, allowing the diamond stud to remain as flush to a woman’s ear as possible.

The solution was to create a connector that goes onto the back of the ear where the nut is located, says Gould. The Ice Drops attachment works only on Kwiat’s three-prong studs.

Kwiat introduced 20 styles of drops at summer trade shows. The looks range from the newly hot stiletto – or straight line – earrings that were so popular at the Academy Awards, to other long and short styles to suit personal preferences.
