Shining in Silver

Diamonds elevate a formerly humble precious metal

Matched with diamonds, sterling silver leaves behind its inexpensive craft-jewelry image. “Diamonds and silver provide a vehicle for women to wear and afford diamonds in a casual, fashionable way,” says Rebecca Foerster, vice president of marketing for Lyric by Frederick Goldman, New York City. “Diamonds are always serious, but now there is a new way to wear them. No matter whether they’re young or old, consumers love this new look of silver.”

Rebecca Foerster, vice president of marketing for Lyric by Frederick Goldman, New York City, offers selling advice for sterling silver set with diamonds:

Fashion-Forward. Sterling silver and diamonds are gaining popularity in the fashion segment of the industry. Reasonable prices help you sell this to women buying for themselves and those starting to build a fine jewelry wardrobe.

Know Your Silver. Make sure customers know silver tarnishes, but that this perceived disadvantage can actually improve some jewelry’s appearance as it ages. Educate them on silver care, and offer a certificate of authenticity with each purchase.

Give A Presentation. Use background colors that complement silver in a display, such as periwinkle. Keep the jewelry in a place where customers can try it on to instigate an impulse buy.
