Building the Perfect Wardrobe
Just as consumers were getting in the mood to spend money, In Style's November issue offered up all sorts of tempting ideas for ways readers could dispose of their income. One section by jewelry writers Penny Proddow and Marion Fasel sets forth the 10 must-haves of any jewelry wardrobe. They include:
Watches: The article touts everyday styles that are built to last and go with anything. The authors recommend steel, gold or a mixture of both.
Diamond solitaire necklace: It's "the little black dress of jewelry," according to Joan Parker of the Diamond Information Center.
Studs: Diamonds or cultured pearls are earrings that go from day to night.
Rings: Gold rings in matte or shiny metal are strong and sophisticated, highlight dark clothes and add a shimmer to neutrals. The article suggests stackables as a way to diversify.
Something funky: Go down in price and look for unusual shapes and materials, say the authors. They suggest pieces that are similar to wearers' basics but that have color or personal meaning.
Link bracelets: Yellow gold is good for daytime wear, while white is dressier, say Proddow and Fasel.
Hoops: One pair is versatile enough to go from office to weekend, and different sizes provide very different looks.
Pearls: The article suggests white cultured pearl strands as an elegant, classic statement, and the range of colors to accompany the tones of a wearer's clothing wardrobe.
Bangles: They're carefree, have movement and make noise, and they can adapt for formal occasions.
Pendants: "A little pendant doesn't overpower your personality," according to stylist Phillip Bloch.
Huggies: The authors introduce hinged-hoop earrings as a new classic, small, comfortable and convenient.
