Color Craze

Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett, Drew Barrymore, Nicole Kidman and Claire Danes are just a few of the Hollywood stars adorning themselves in colored gem stones, Jane Keltner reports in November's Elle. However, celebrities aren't the only ones wearing color; women are buying themselves colored-stone jewelry thanks to the lower prices of colored gem stones and women having more disposable income, Keltner writes.

According to Elle, the most popular stones are amethyst, apatite, aquamarine, beryl, citrine, coral, gamet, hessonite, iolite, jade, kunzite, lapis, moonstone, morganite, onyx, opal, peridot, spinel, tanzanite, topaz, tourmaline and turquoise. Featured in Elle's two-page article "Romancing the Stone" is a Sharon Alouf tourmaline necklace, a H. Stern amethyst ring, a Cathy Waterman iolite drop necklace, a M+J Savitt nine-strand aventurine necklace and a blue topaz and diamond ring by John Atencio.
