Jet jewelry is the hot style featured in the August issue of Elle. "First popularized by a widowed Queen Victoria in the late nineteenth century, jet jewelry is coming out of mourning just in time for the current Victorian fashion revival," writes Ellyn Chestnut. It doesn't hurt that black is back in fashion, as well, or that opaque gems like coral, jade and turquoise are also popular. Higher-end jewelers can use fashion readers' interest in all things black to show off pricier black diamonds and black pearls.
