Jewelry Steals the Covers

Fashion magazines are notoriously stingy about placing jewelry on their cover models, wanting the clothes to shine. But recently, the big magazines have been using jewelry in chic ways to highlight its return to the fashion world's radar screen.

It started in September with Presidential niece Lauren Bush, a model, wearing a simple strand of gray Tahitian cultured pearls by Harry Winston on the cover of Town & Country. They beautifully complemented her black Valentino gown. In October, Vogue's exotically dressed cover model was covered in equally exotic ethnic jewelry. She wore a sapphire-and-diamond flower bracelet, a gold flower-motif bangle and seed-pearl earrings from Kentshires Galleries. November was In Style's turn. It showed off high-karat yellow gold dangle earrings by S.J. Phillips, London, as a perfect foil to cover model Cate Blanchett's bright orange Vera Wang dress.
