If you're not a metalsmith, it's sometimes hard to get your mind around casting and jewelry-making. RW Manufacturing in Rochester, NY, has created an educational site about the manufacturing process.
The site's On-Line Tour describes jewelry-making in 11 steps, illustrated by photos of the company's jewelers working on a piece. It starts with design and explains lost-wax casting, filing and grinding, assembly by brazing, gemstone setting and finishing. It's a good place to direct customers who are trying to understand or salespeople who want to learn how to explain how jewelry is made. The site is simple and loads fairly quickly, although some of the images take several seconds to download.
