If you're not a metalsmith, it's sometimes hard to get your mind around casting and jewelry-making. RW Manufacturing in Rochester, NY, has created an educational site about the manufacturing process.

The site's On-Line Tour describes jewelry-making in 11 steps, illustrated by photos of the company's jewelers working on a piece. It starts with design and explains lost-wax casting, filing and grinding, assembly by brazing, gemstone setting and finishing. It's a good place to direct customers who are trying to understand – or salespeople who want to learn how to explain – how jewelry is made. The site is simple and loads fairly quickly, although some of the images take several seconds to download.
