TOTAL JEWELRY SALES IN THE U.S.

1999 -- $43.7 billion

NOTE: This projection was calculated using 1992 percentages* and the 1999 jewelry store sales figure published by the US Department of Commerce.**

Projection is calculated by using projected current jewelry sales in jewelry stores divided by the 1992 US Department of Commerce share of market percentage for retail jewelry stores.

CAUTION: This is a mathematical projection. If the jewelers share of market or share of store sales by product shifted significantly between 1992 and 1997,** the projection can move higher of lower. This figure is meant to be used only as a market indicator.

* According to the US Department of Commerce Retail Business Census in 1992, retail jewelers accounted for a 49.6% share of total jewelry sales in the US. Jewelry sales in jewelry stores accounted for 91.7 % of jewelers total sales.

** Multiple revisions to annual jewelry store sales figures occur throughout the year after they are first published. Therefore, our projected total jewelry sales figure will change when we adjust for these revisions.

*** The US business censuses are done every five years. Statistics from the censuses are published throughout the five year span until the next census.
