AGS Conclave Draws Record Crowd

More than 800 retailer and supplier members of the American Gem Society gathered in New Orleans last week for the society's annual Conclave. The attendance, an increase of 14% over last year, was the highest in more than 12 years.

Georgie Gleim of Gleim the Jeweler, Palo Alto and Los Altos, CA, received the coveted Robert M. Shipley award, given annually to a member who best typifies dedication to AGS, the jewelry industry and his or her local community.

AGS also introduced new member-only programs, including a millennium diamond commercial underwritten by De Beers, preferred rates for Gemological Institute of America courses and special rates for an AGS consumer section slated for the November issue of the luxury magazine Robb Report, which was also a sponsor for Conclave.

AGS stressed its recovery as a vital organization, saying it now boasts a financially healthy bottom line. The organization says it received a boost from its popular gem lab, whose cut grade reports are sought after in the industry and by consumers.
