Tahitian Pearl Design Contest Announced

G.I.E. Perles de Tahiti, a French Polynesia-based publicity organization for Tahitian cultured pearls, is sponsoring its first jewelry design competition, an international contest to be held during Fashion Week in Paris, France, in October 2000.

Preliminary competitions in North America and several European countries will narrow down winners who will then go on to compete internationally. A panel of 11 fashion and accessory editors from consumer and trade magazines will judge entries in the preliminary contest based on innovative use of Tahitian pearls, excellence of design and quality of workmanship.

The contest is open to all professional jewelers and jewelry designers, who can enter as many as two jewelry entries. Pieces will be categorized by retail price – less than $1,000, between $1,000 and $5,000, and more than $5,000. Entry forms are now available, and entries must be received by Dec. 1, 1999.

To enter, contact Tracy Strong at the Cultured Pearl Information Center, (212) 688-5580.
