Revere Releases Repair Book

Jewelry bench and repair educator Alan Revere released Ring Repair (RAJA Press, $44.95) this week, the first book in his long-awaited Professional Jewelry Repair series.

The only book dedicated solely to repairing rings, Ring Repair includes step-by-step instruction, accompanied by photography, on tasks ranging from the simple (stretching, sizing various kinds of rings and soldering rings with gems) to advanced procedures (adding sizes, reshanking and two-tone sizing). One section identifies all necessary tools, and another reviews safety procedures. An appendix charts lengths of ring blanks for all finger sizes and gauges of metal, plus illustrates ring mandrels from around the world.

Revere, who runs Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco, CA, plans to release new installments in the series in 2000. Subsequent books will cover settings, chains, bracelets, clasps and an introduction to repairs in general.

The 128-page book is available from Revere Academy Books, 800-844-9442,
