Dia Met Names New Chairman
Dia Met Minerals Ltd., Kelowna, BC, Canada, appointed Peter Atkinson non-executive interim chairman of its board of directors, succeeding Charles Fipke, who resigned as chairman. Fipke will remain as Dia Met's director and serve in the newly created post of honorary chairman. Fipke is Dia Met's founder and the geologist who discovered what is now the Ekati diamond mine in Canada's Northwest Territories.
Atkinson has served as a Dia Met director since 1996. He holds the positions of vice president and general counsel also.
"Mr. Fipke's record as one of the world's most accomplished exploration geologists speaks for itself and we look forward to his continued involvement," Atkinson said in a release. "In addition to these changes, Dia Met also plans to make further changes to its board so that it can better represent the broad range of shareholder interests in our company and to more effectively address the many exciting opportunities that are before us."
Dia Met owns an interest in the Ekati Mine, which is operated by BHP Diamonds Inc., Canada's first operating diamond mine. In addition to its share in the Ekati Mine, Dia Met is exploring mining operations in Mauritania, Greenland and other sites in Canada.
