Jewelers of America's Jewelry 101 program will now be offered as a self-study course as well as an interactive seminar. Jewelry 101 is a product-education program aimed at entry-level retail jewelry sales associates and experienced sales professionals. The program is co-sponsored by the American Gem Trade Association, Perles de Tahiti GIE, Gemological Institute of America, Platinum Guild International, World Gold Council and JA.
The self-study version of the program provides sales associates with a variety of materials including videotaped presentations by experts from each of the program's co-sponsors. The program can be conducted in-store using the Trainer's Guide that comes with the program, or sales associates can study individually.
"Having Jewelry 101 only available in a seminar format proved restricting," says JA Vice President of Professional Development Bev Hori. "Demand for Jewelry 101 far exceeded the supply. Access was the No. 1 issue. A self-study version allows us to reach more locations and more entry level personnel."
JA also is offering its members a new comprehensive health insurance program. JA partnered with Choice Employee Benefits Group LLC to offer jewelers health insurance solutions to fit individual needs. Choice works with insurance companies across the country and will provide jewelers with any or all of these benefits: managed-care benefits, regional health plans, point-of-service plans, preferred provider organizations, traditional indemnity programs, self-funded programs, dental insurance, discount vision care, travel and accident insurance, disability insurance and life insurance.
"With Choice's affordable rates and dependable service, JA members can give with employees excellent health insurance plan without anxiety over cost and reliability," says JA President and CEO Matthew Runci. "We know our entire membership can benefit from this program."
