Guard Killed in Mid-Day Jewelry Store Robbery

A security guard was shot and killed Tuesday as he tried to stop a mid-day robbery at a jewelry store in Cupertino, CA. The veteran guard, identified as Josefino Cambosa of San Jose, was on duty at the Jade Galore Jewelry Co. in the Cupertino Village shopping center when four armed robbers burst in around 3:15 p.m., the San Jose Mercury News reports. Four employees were in the store at the time.

When Cambosa confronted the robbers, he was shot once in the chest with a rifle. The masked gunmen grabbed a substantial amount of jewelry from a display case and fled the scene in a white four-door sedan. Cambosa was taken to a local medical center where he died a short time later. The robbers are still at large, the Mercury News reports.

Cambosa worked for Atlas Security & Patrol Inc. in San Jose and was in the security business for nearly 20 years. According to the Mercury News, the owner of Atlas is offering a reward for the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Cambosa's death.
