SIHH and Basel Reschedule Their 2002 Events
The organizers of the Basel World Watch and Jewelry Show and SIHH of Geneva announced today they have agreed to coordinate the dates of the two events for 2002. The next Basel Show will be postponed until April 4-11, 2002 and SIHH has been rescheduled to April 8-15, 2002. According to the groups, the decision was made in the primary interest of their international exhibitors and visitors.
Since its inception 11 years ago, the Geneva-based SIHH show has occurred prior to the Basel Show, though the dates sometimes overlapped. When the Basel Show moved to its current March time period in 2000 (the show was held during late April or early May in most previous years), SIHH rescheduled its 2000 show to again coincide with the Basel Show. However, for the first time, in 2000 SIHH occurred after the Basel Show.
SIHH announced this year it would hold its next event in Geneva Jan. 18-25, 2002, two months prior to the March 14 starting date of Basel 2002. Then three high-end firms recently purchased by Richemont (which created the SIHH show) announced, as expected, they would leave Basel for Geneva in 2002. These companies are IWC, Lange & Söhne and Jaeger LeCoultre.
Today's announcement simplifies high-end watch buyers' decision of which show to attend. If the dates had remained separated, many would have to choose one over the other.
