Salesman Robbed of $2 Million in Jewelry

Two armed men stole $2 million in jewelry from a traveling jewelry salesman Tuesday at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport in South Carolina, NBC affiliate WIS Television reports. The salesman, from New York City, was returning a rental car when the robbers approached him. One man held the salesman at gunpoint while the other demanded the salesman's bags.

The thieves fled the scene with the bags, which were filled with polished loose gemstones, rings and bracelets. The salesman was not hurt and has since returned to New York City, WIS Television reports.

Authorities say the robbers fled in a 1970s-model blue Chevy Nova with white spots. No arrests have been made, and the FBI is leading the investigation.
