GIA to Offer Intensive A.J.P. Program

The Gemological Institute of America will launch an accelerated version of its Accredited Jewelry Professional diploma program months earlier than scheduled. The three required classes will be taught online in an intensive format, allowing students to complete the program in as little as 23 days.

GIA is offering the first class of the new intensive A.J.P. program from Aug. 11 to Sept. 4. The second class is scheduled to begin Sept. 4 and end Oct. 4.

While the standard program can be done at the student's own pace, the intensive version requires about one hour of work daily and two hours of work each day on the weekends. The hours can be changed to accommodate work schedules. At least five people are needed for each A.J.P. intensive class with no more than 15 people per class.

"This is the right tool at the right time for retail sales associates who want to receive a top-notch education, but don't want to take time away from work or commit themselves to a lengthy program," says Tom Lahman, GIA's manager of distance education.

GIA also announced it will begin offering its Colored Stone Essentials course, part of the regular A.J.P. program, online in September. For more information about GIA and its diploma programs, call (800) 421-7250, ext. 4001; e-mail or visit GIA online at
