Jewelry Information Center Postpones Gem Awards

Because of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, the Jewelry Information Center is postponing its Gem Awards gala, which had been scheduled for Nov. 13 in New York City. JIC will reschedule the event for next year and announce the new dates soon.

"We would like to thank those who have shown support to JIC and to this event specifically," says Executive Director Elizabeth Florence. "In the challenging time ahead, we will continue to put forth our best efforts in service to our great industry."

"The Jewelry Information Center, like all of America, extends its sympathy to all who have suffered," continues the release, "and salutes those many heroes whose compassion and courage have been so inspirational."

The Gem Awards were created to salute journalistic excellence among consumer publications in the coverage of fine jewelry and related issues. Print and broadcast media will be recognized. Awards also will be presented to movie and television personalities whose work and personae have created an aura of style, taste and glamour around the wearing of fine jewelry, says JIC. In addition, the group will recognize leading retailers whose creativity in marketing and promotion have been exceptional.
