WDC to Meet in Milan

The World Diamond Council's second annual meeting will be held March 12 and 13, 2002, in Milan, Italy, and is expected to concentrate on the continuing effort to eliminate conflict diamonds from international trade.

"The World Diamond Council has made great progress toward its ulitmate goal of eliminating conflict diamonds from legitimate trade," says Eli Izhakoff, WDC chairman. "We have accomplished much in a relatively short time and we have even more important work before us. This meeting will define the shape and scope of WDC strategy for the coming year."

Nicky Oppenheimer, chairman of the De Beers Group, will address the general session. Abbey Chikane, chair of the Kimberley Process, will attend the meeting, which will also draw representatives of national governments, diamond industry leaders and delegates from non-governmental organizations.
