J-BAR to Hold Meeting in NYC

Due to the recent success and interest in J-BAR, the Jewelers Board of Appraisal Review, an additional meeting has been scheduled for the New York area during the JA New York Show.

"We've been quite encouraged by the level of interest we've received at our latest meetings," says Cecilia L. Gardner, JVC's executive director and general council. "Many interested retailers and those interested in appraisals from throughout the industry have attended. Due to such a strong turnout, we've scheduled one additional meeting in the New York area."

The J-BAR meetings are held to explain the newly formed organization and give Gardner a forum to speak about the appraisal challenges the industry faces.

"We're reminding jewelers that each time they appraise they do take on a legal liability," says Gardner. "We're also encouraging them to get appraisal education and letting them know what J-BAR is all about. Many of those attending are those who do appraisals every day, yet have not been affiliated with an appraisal organization. Many have not had formal appraisal training to date. These people, who wish to learn more and find out how to better protect themselves, are exactly why J-BAR was formed."

The New York City meeting will be held Sunday, July 28, from 11 a.m. to noon, in room 1-D03 of the Jacob Javits Center during the JA New York Show. No RSVPs are necessary; all interested parties are welcome to attend.

J-BAR was formed in 2001 to promote easily accessible appraisal practice education, to act as a clearinghouse for resolving disputes involving appraisal issues and to monitor compliance with sound appraisal practice.
