MJSA Forms Alliance With FedEx
Manufacturing Jewelers & Suppliers of America offers its members saving on overnight shipping of packages with a declared value of up to $50,000, through Federal Express's Declared Value Exception Service. MJSA members receive the special rate of 20 cents per $100 of value, 33% off the non-member rate of 30 cents per $100.
The partnership between MJSA is the first time FedEx has offered its Declared Value Exception Service to the industry nationwide. The benefits, says MJSA, seem custom-made for the jewelry industry. They include:
Real-Time Tracking. FedEx allows shippers to track a package's location in real time and also allows for third-party tracking, ideal for jewelers who ship goods to outside sales representatives.
Automated Paperwork. The Service is automated to reduce the hassle of preparing shipping and insurance documents for every package. A company that has been entered into the FedEx system can quickly generate shipping labels (which included declared value) either online or from an in-house computer.
Zone-Based Pricing. Unlike other third party shipping companies that charge a flat rate regardless of destination, FedEx uses a zone-based pricing plan that could save 20% to 40% on shipping costs. MJSA members will be given zone-locator information for their areas to verify shipping costs.
FedEx will also offer MJSA members several other service tiers for overnight shipping service. There will be a service for up to $10,000 declared value for second-day air and up to $5,000 for three-day delivery. The options are priced competitively with U.S. Postal Service registered mail. Members will also get discounts up to 45% for all other FedEx freight services.
