Longines Donates to Hepburn Children's Fund

Founding sponsor Longines Watch Co. presented a check for $200,000 to Audrey Hepburn Cares Team ambassador Jennifer Love Hewitt at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. The Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund and Longines established the Audrey Hepburn Cares Team at Children's Hospital Los Angeles to provide comprehensive medical and mental health services to children who are victims of maltreatment, sexual and physical abuse, neglect and HIV infection.

The presentation completes a $ 700,000 donation supporting Longines' commitment to Hepburn's quest to provide children with the basic dignities owed to every human being. The official donation ceremony was held June 11 and attended by Longines U.S. President Michael Benavente, Hewitt, Hepburn's son Sean Ferrer and Dr. Karen Kay Imagawa, director of the Audrey Hepburn Cares Team.

The donation includes the revenues from the "A Heart for Children" event held Nov. 14, 2002 at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. Highlightd included a silent and private auction featuring nine unique18k gold Longines watches designed exclusively for the event, plus a live Christie's auction presided by Christie's Los Angeles President Andrey Fiuczinski. It featured a one-of-a-kind Longines DolceVita "A Heart for Children" watch set with 218 diamonds and a heart-shaped Swarovski pendant once owned and worn by Audrey Hebpurn. Estimated at $9,950, the watch went for $16,000, while the pendant fetched $6,000. Buena Vista Social Club singer Omara Portuondo's contribution, a silk shawl she wore in the film, was auctioned for $3,000.
