Hong Kong Fair Welcomes Overseas Buyers

Signaling a return to normalcy for Hong Kong's jewelry business, the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Watch Fair 2003 welcomed buyers from 31 countries. The fair, taking place June 19-22, offered free air tickets to regular buyers to attend the event, saying more overseas attendees would boost confidence in Hong Kong's safety. The event is the first major international trade fair to be held since the lifting of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome travel advisory by the World Health Organization and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.

The fair is taking precautions against SARS, including using infrared scanners measuring the body temperatures of all participants as they enter the exhibition area. There are hygiene stations with hand sanitizers, face masks, and mask disposal bags available for all visitors. Medical professionals are also on duty throughout the fair.

The fair hosted the 22nd Paspaley Pearl Auction on June 17-18, and the main show is held concurrently with Asia's Fashion Jewellery & Accessories Fair, also at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
