IGI Funds East River Bridge Lights
The International Gemological Institute and three other New York City companies each donated $20,000 for each of the next two years to fund the relighting of New York City's four East River bridges the Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Manhattan and Queensboro spans.
The necklace lights on the bridges, which outline each structure, were turned off eight months ago due to budget constraints. The 906 100-watt mercury-vapor bulbs will be relit during a ceremony this Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the River Café near the Brooklyn Bridge.
The River Cafe, IGI, the law firm Carter Ledyard & Millburn and currency exchange company Travelex donated a total of $160,000 to fund the lights for the next two years.
