CIBJO to Discuss Industry's Future at Congress

CIBJO will hold its annua congress in Bangkok, Thailand, Feb. 28 - March 1. A range of viewpoints will be presented at the congress by delegates from the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, the United States and Russia.

"By attracting so many representatives from all over the world, our congress has an important role to play in creating and reinforcing harmony within the jewelry industry and finding solutions for our common challenges," says Gaetano Cavalieri, CIBJO president.

Carlo Alberto Carnevale Maffe of SDA Bocconi University, Milan, Italy, will present "Dancing on Rolling Stones, Competitive Strategies for the Jewelry Industry," and Gareth Penny, executive director of the Diamond Trading Co., will deliver an update on the implementation of DTC's Supplier of Choice program.

Regional analyses will be given by Tawfique Abdullah, CEO of the Dubai Metals and Commodities Centre, U.A.E., who will discuss the past, present and future of retail jewelry distribution in Dubai; and Sergei A. Oulin, vice president of Alrosa Ltd., Moscow, who will present "Russian Strategy for the Growth of the Domestic and Export Diamond Market."

William E. Boyajian, president of the Gemological Institute of America, Carlsbad, CA, will present a program on standard and quality measurements for diamonds and colored stones and the certification process, and Eli Izhakoff, CEO of the World Diamond Council, will speak about the status and results of the Kimberley Process.
