M. Fabrikant & Sons Partners with Hip Hop Stars

M. Fabrikant & Sons, one of the worlds largest distributors of polished diamonds and jewelry, has teamed up with hip-hop impresario Russell Simmons and designer Kimora Lee Simmons, creative director of Baby Phat, a widely covered fashion line, to form a joint venture partnership called The Simmons Jewelry Company. It will develop innovative lines of fine jewelry and watches under the Baby Phat, Phat Farm, Def Jam, Kimora Lee Simmons and Russell Simmons brands.

The lines will be designed by both Kimora Lee and Russell Simmons, as well as an experienced group of merchandisers. The collection will include a "red carpet" couture line, which features a signature cut diamond designed by Kimora Lee Simmons. The company will also launch a line of moderately priced jewelry for the 2004 holiday season. A preview of selected pieces was featured at Kimora Lee Simmons's Baby Phat show during New York Fashion Week.

Fabrikant's position as a leading wholesaler of diamonds and fine jewelry enables it to spearhead the project. The company's experience in marketing, sales, manufacturing, and distribution also complements the fashion and trends experience of the Simmons. "Teaming up and partnering with a company as solid and reputable as Fabrikant on this venture will hopefully influence other African Americans to actively participate in businesses that they influence around the world," says Russell Simmons.

"We are very excited to be working with legends in the hip-hop community. The strength and reputation of Fabrikant combined with the powerful influence of Russell and Kimora Lee makes this jewelry venture a winning proposition," notes Scott Rauch, president of the Simmons Jewelry Company. "Together we are filling a void in the marketplace that, up until now, has been largely ignored."
