Diamond Presentations at Basel
The Israel Diamond Institute, the Gemological Institute of America and De Beers' Diamond Trading Co. all plan events for the upcoming BaselWorld, April 15-22.
IDI's events include a breakfast on April 16 that will feature a panel of diamond branders moderated by Ken Gassman of Rapaport Research. Panel members include representatives of the Israeli-based companies A. Dalumi Diamonds, EMA and Lili diamonds, as well as trend forecaster Paola Da Luca. IDI has also upgraded its booth in Hall 3 to feature the recently launched IDI Web portal and a new film about Israel's diamond industry.
GIA will hold its annual GemFest Basel on April 17, with an update on its diamond cut research by Thomas C. Yonelunas, CEO of GIA Gem Laboratory, and Thomas M. Moses, vice president of identification and research services for the GIA Lab. A panel of top industry executives will discuss the impact of the new cut research findings.
DTC plans a seminar that will run twice, once in the morning and once in the afternoon, on April 19. The seminar will update the industry on the progress of the Supplier of Choice initiative, examine several branding campaigns, describe DTC's 2004 marketing programs and review consumer confidence issues, such as the growing number of synthetics and the promotion of natural diamonds. One of the speakers will also examine upcoming trends in diamond jewelry and among diamond jewelry consumers.
