Sterling Comp Sales Rise 6.8%

Sterling Jewelers, U.S. division of United Kingdom-based Signet Group, announced comparable store sales increases of 6.8% for its second quarter ended July 31. For the first six months of its year, Sterling posted comparable store sales increases of 8.2%. Sterling stores include Kay Jewelers and Jared The Galleria of Jewelry, as well as a variety of regional stores.

Total Signet Group sales in the second quarter increased 8.7% with comparable store sales increases of 6%. Signet also has a United Kingdom retail division. "The group continued to perform well in the second quarter," says Terry Burman, Signet Group chief executive. "In the U.S., like for like sales were up by 6.8%, a strong result in a changeable retail environment."
