Online Shopping Could Boom in Holiday 2004

According to the 2004 Shop.org/BizRate.com Online Holiday Mood Study, conducted Sept. 22-23, 98% of online merchants expect online sales growth this holiday season. This finding is supported by the 32% of online shoppers reporting that they plan to do more of their holiday shopping online this year.

Seventy-two percent of online retailers plan to begin holiday promotions at the same time they did last year, sometime after Halloween, but 53% of shoppers plan to start shopping in early October. Eighty-nine percent of online shoppers plan to use the Internet to comparison shop, 86% to research gifts for others, 74% to buy gifts for others and somewhat greedy 53% to buy gifts for themselves. Chuck Davis, CEO of BizRate.com stated, "The online sector is quickly becoming a one-stop destination for consumers."
