Ranks of U.S. Millionaires Up 33%

According to an annual wealth survey conducted by TNS Financial Services, the ranks of U.S. millionaires surged 33 percent in 2004 compared to 2003, to a record 8.2 million households, adding 2 million households with more than $1 million in net worth excluding their primary residences.

The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.2%. The increases in wealth are attributed to stock market gains that occurred between June 2003 and June 2004, when the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed about 15%, and the Nasdaq Composite Index gained about 25%, according to TNS.
